My little boy had a birthday this month. He’s my youngest, he’s three, and he loves trains. One of his favorite books is called “Freight Train” by Donald Crews. In my mind, it’s a classic. I used it as inspiration for a quilt and started sketching a pattern a few months ago. I’m going to host the Freight Train Quilt Along this fall – starting in September.
I got one train done, and the week before his birthday, I decided to go crazy and try to finish the quilt. I usually don’t get sick of quilting, but that week – I was pushing it and needed to take a break for a while after it was finished.
I am so happy about how it turned out. I decided that instead of selling this pattern, I’m going to host a quilt along this fall. So, check back for instructions and even some videos to show you how to make each block. Even if you don’t quilt, my kids are often with me when I’m making the videos and the narration is pretty great – at least…my husband and I were entertained.
Also, I’ve been keeping a happiness journal since Mothers Day. I was inspired to start it after finishing listening to this speech series by Brene Brown. It was so entertaining and also so helpful with a lot of stuff that’s been going on in my life lately. One thing she said was that people who are able to really feel joy practice gratitude – meaning they write something down, or they say something they’re grateful for every day at lunch – they take time to think about it. This picture, with the bubbles, is one for me. Man…summer evening, a bubble machine, my cute little boy, family gathered for his birthday party – what could be better?
