This year for gifts to my kids’ teachers, I decided to make a Mini Freight Train Quilt. I was so tickled with how it turned out. It’d also be super fun to gift the quilt with the book Freight Train, which is where the design came from.
I’ve also been working on my machine binding skills. Typically, I only do hand-stitched bindings, but I’m starting to get the hang of it. I make a bigger binding strip – 3″ or 3.5″ instead of the typical 2.5″. Then, I sew the binding onto the back, turn it and stitch down right along the edge on the front of the quilt. The corners aren’t so pretty yet though. Still working on that one!
Here’s a picture from their first day of school in 2016. They already look bigger to me, and obviously…they are. It’s been such a year of growth for our family. And when I look forward…it’s exciting. Jon will graduate in December, so the end of the next school year, we could be anywhere. Europe anyone?
